Learn how to regulate your nervous system though breathing exercises
Relaxation exercises can be very helpful to regulate our emotions, our nervous system and therefore our feelings, thoughts and body sensations.
Journaling is an exercise that can be beneficial for many reasons:
It can help you to create an overview of patterns in thoughts, emotions, body sensations and behaviour you might experience;
It can help to clear the mind of chaos;
It can help to validate, acknowledge and recognise your emotions;
It can be a good exercise to learn language for all the emotions that we can experience.
Extra tip: Use the Wheel of Emotions to find words for your emotions.Please note that there is no wrong or right in how you journal. You can write in full sentences, words, draw things etc, … It’s a way of expressing.
Extra tip: Do you feel you might lose track of time when journaling, or you might feel overwhelmed as it takes too much energy?
Time frame your journal exercise - Set a timer for 10min. and when the timer goes off, put your note book/worksheet away for the next journaling moment.
